Querica al Poggio

Querica al Poggio

Italy • Tuscany

Quercia al Poggio is located in Barberino Val d’Elsa, between Florence and Sienna, sitting roughly 400 metres above sea level. Owned by the Rossi family, the estate is positioned between the iconic estates of Isola e Olena and the Castello della Paneretta and extends over 100 hectares of woodland nature reserve where vines and olive trees are organically cultivated.

Like those of their famous neighbors, their soils have a lot of clay that’s rich in limestone and scattered, but with less abundant sections of galestro, a unique geological formation found in many regions of Chianti Classico. The deep clay soils bring roundness and charm to their wines, while the limestone and galestro sculpt its more finely detailed nuances and brings the wine to life.

The heart of Quercia al Poggio is housed in a rural village of nineteenth-century origin which still exudes a peaceful flavor that goes well with the company’s offering. Their wine is a squeeze of stories that tells of fatigue and satisfaction, of lands worked with sweat and determination, of a territory with centuries of history embedded in its soil.
