Domaine Felettig
Domaine Felletig

A decade ago, few outside Burgundy had heard of Domaine Felettig. Today, the estate’s wines rank among the finest expressions of Chambolle-Musigny, praised by collectors, sommeliers, and critics alike. The ascent has been remarkable, and it is rooted in a family history that remains relatively young by Burgundian standards.
The story begins with Henri Felettig, a vineyard worker who inherited just 2 hectares in 1965. Nearly thirty years later, when his children Gilbert and Christine took over, the domaine had grown to 9 hectares. Today it covers 13 hectares, extending from Gevrey-Chambertin to Beaune, with parcels in the Hautes-Côtes and a superb collection of Chambolle-Musigny premier crus as well as the Grand Cru Echézeaux.
For many years, much of the domaine’s production was sold to top négociants such as Dominique Laurent, Olivier Bernstein, and the Dujac négociant house, all of whom appreciated Gilbert’s meticulous and increasingly organic vineyard work. As Gilbert developed his own stylistic identity in the cellar, the domaine gradually transitioned to bottling its entire production, a shift completed around 2010.
The early 2010s marked a turning point. Gilbert began refining his methods in 2011, experimenting steadily, and the 2013 vintage became a true breakthrough. Most of the wines were produced using gravity, and significant investments were made in the winery to modernise equipment and improve temperature control during fermentation.
Quality has continued to rise every year. Élevage is now longer and more precise, with the wines aged for 18 months in carefully selected barrels, predominantly from François Frères. The domaine began organic conversion in 2020, reinforcing the family’s commitment to healthier soils and purer fruit. A major renovation of the winery followed, introducing new stainless-steel and oak vats, a vertical basket press, and a dedicated cellar for bottle storage — improvements clearly visible in recent vintages. The revived Corton parcel performed exceptionally well in 2023, and several cuvées that were once blended are now bottled separately to allow their identities to shine.
In 2022, Pauline Felettig joined her father in the cellar, ensuring continuity and bringing renewed energy to the domaine. She has been driving important changes in the vineyards, particularly in top sites such as Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Reignots and Petits-Monts, as well as other flagship parcels. These vineyards are now trained on much higher trellising, and the vines are no longer hedged — a deliberate decision that results in smaller, less productive berries with naturally higher concentration. This evolution has already had a noticeable impact on the purity and intensity of the wines.
With exceptional farming, thoughtful winemaking, and an unwavering commitment to progress, Domaine Felettig has emerged from relative obscurity to become one of the most compelling and essential names in Burgundy today.
