Boutique Wines

The Brezza estate, which includes part of the renowned Cannubi vineyard and other fine sites including Sarmassa and Castellero around the village of Barolo, has been bottling since 1910. Now run by Enzo Brezza and his cousin Giacomo, they are the fourth generation of the family to make wine here,

Brezza’s wines are icons of traditional winemaking: organic grape growing, long macerations, and aging in large barrels. This transparent style, applied consistently and cleanly across the different bottlings, allows the differences of site to become clear, with no new oak aromas or rusticity to get in the way.

These are some of the best Barolos being made. (Kerin O’Keefe, in her excellent book Barolo and Barbaresco, describes Brezza as a 'fine producer of Barolo.')

2012 Barolo Cannubi

From the famous Cannubi vineyard, gray-bluish clay with a strong limestone component

94 Points - Kerin O'Keefe, Wine Enthusiast

Structured and delicious, this opens with aromas suggesting underbrush, leather rose petal and a balsamic note. The juicy palate doles out raspberry compote, ripe red cherry, cinnamon and a sprinkling of white pepper. Firm velvety tannins provide the framework while a licorice note closes the lingering finish.

2012 Barolo Sarmassa

Bordering the municipality of La Morra with a high percentage of clay and silt.

93 Points - Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media

The 2012 Barolo Sarmassa is one of the most powerful of the 2012 Barolos, patience will be required for this wine but in a few years it should fully blossom. When it does, it should be pretty special.

Fragrant and refined, this has classic Nebbiolo aromas of woodland berry, rose petal, tilled soil and a balsamic note of eucalyptus. It's vibrant, elegant and balanced, boasting juicy cherry, crushed strawberry, white pepper and a hint of licorice framed in bright acidity and taut, polished tannins
